Larry Gay

Larry was born in Marysville, California and raised on a small ranch in Gridley.

After graduating high school he began working in the cattle and horse business. Working on cow/calf operations, training show horses, with team roping a hobby.

While working on a cattle ranch in Klamath Falls (Oregon) he met fellow employee Virgie Pritchett and they were married in 1970.

In 1984, the horse ranch Larry was working on had a dispersal sale and the ranch sold. He decided this was a good time to change professions. Having always been interested in the vaquero style and Spanish bits and having the knowledge to use them; Larry decided to put his welding skills to use, and opened shop in Red Bluff, where LG Bits and Spurs began.

Since the beginning of the California Bit Makers Contest, Larry has placed in the top three each year, winning the competition twice.

"I have been fortunate to have built a good business, meeting lots of fine people and making some great life long friends.

Larry also enjoys making wood bows, fly fishing, hunting and traditional archery.
